What Strategy Really Means (And Why I’m Giving You Mine)
‘Strategy.’ It’s everywhere.
Every agency talks about it. Every consultant promises it. Every brand wants it.
But here’s the thing: very few people can actually explain what strategy is.

But here’s the thing: very few people can actually explain what strategy is.
Why Most ‘Strategy’ Isn’t Strategy
Most of what gets labelled brand strategy is actually tactics in disguise. A new logo. A tagline. A campaign. A moodboard.
Important? Sure. But none of these things are strategy.
Real strategy isn’t about decoration. It’s about direction.
It’s the invisible framework that tells you:
how your brand shows up,
what it says,
and how it makes people feel.
Without strategy, all the design and copy in the world is just noise.
What Strategy Really Is
For me, strategy isn’t a buzzword.
It’s a framework for decision-making.
It’s how a brand gains clarity and resonance, so every choice, from messaging to design to experience, connects back to something deeper and more intentional.
After 25 years working in communication strategy, behavioural insight, and brand storytelling, I’ve seen how often ‘strategy’ is misunderstood or skipped altogether. That’s why I spent years refining a process that makes strategy clear, actionable, and alive.
And today, I’m sharing it with you.
The Narrative Strategist Framework
This is the exact 4-phase process I use with every client to transform brand essence into a living, breathing story.
1. Discover (Empathy & Essence)
We start by uncovering the heartbeat of your brand. Listening for truths, exploring your audience’s worldview, and mapping the essence that makes you unforgettable.
2. Align (Identity & Intention)
Here, we bring clarity and conviction to your positioning. We align who you are with how you want to be seen, blending identity with emotion.
3. Design (Story Architecture)
This is where the story takes shape. Messaging pillars, tone, and visual direction are built into a cohesive blueprint.
4. Amplify (Experience & Belonging)
Stories are meant to be lived. This phase is about translating your narrative into experiences, editorial features, and community touchpoints that invite people to belong.
The result: a brand that feels true, intentional, and unforgettable.
The Narrative Strategist Framework
Why I’m Sharing This
Because I believe clarity shouldn’t be gatekept.
You deserve to know what strategy really means, not as a vague concept, but as a framework you can see, use, and understand.
And here’s the truth: even if you try to 'steal my framework, your story will still be uniquely yours. That’s the beauty of it.
So go ahead. Steal my strategy. Make it your own.
